Personal Safety .... At Least

Safety--- this is a basic ingredient that any Project Manager should look into when running any project of reasonable size.

I have heard of so many projects that have failed immensely due to the Project Manager's (PM's) neglect of safety policies. Safety is one very important project paramater that I wish to deal with in this posting.

In any labor intensive work , the usual culprit in project disruption is the neglect of safety.

Did you know that a lot of construction projects had to be stopped abruptly due to safety, health and hazard issues? If you are a responsible contractor or may have a dozen men working for a small renovation project... you better factor in "safety" as a main concern.

Small contractors mostly are unable to put priority on safety precautions , for the simple reason that safety has "cost"... if you would just look outside your building windows now, you may be lucky enough to chance upon workers dangling on top of scaffolds virtually "unprotected".

Only lately have I seen workers (in Makati and elsewhere) wearing the proper safety belts and helmets when working above ground levels...specifically on scaffolds .

Also, if you are observant enough, you may see men atop those mammoth billboards climbing and jumping from one steel member to another (when you pass along EDSA). You will also observe here that these men have practically no helmets or at least safety belts on ...... what a scary sight man!

So remember, when passing through any overhead work or construction...just make sure to put your palm on top of your head for that added protection... a screw or a bolt falling at a very high velocity could inflict irrepairable damage to the head, or even worse....may cause sudden death upon impact. Forget about the hairdo, you can re-do that later.

Think of safety first...personal safety at least.

Exactly. Surprising that not that they do practice saftey rules, the employers of these contractors do not even have them insured or covered just in case something happen to them.

I am new to being on a work enviroment that practice the OHS (Occupation Health and Safety) rules even if it means sitting in an office.

Just shows that life is cheap and that sad that employers in cheap labour country we are being taken for granted.
