Lots of people in construction are still wondering what the term "project management" or PM mean. For those who PM practitioners, is the principle of PM really understood . In a country like the Philippines, specially for mid and small contractors here, you should expect that the principles of running successful projects by applying basic PM principles, is practically unheard of.
Several weeks ago, a contractor-friend phoned me and was asking for advise on how to solve her problem on a recently acquired renovation project. In short, my friend had become en-meshed in a legal battle for non-performance. This has always been the case with the rest of my contractor-friends and this has always been a nagging concern among those who are in this unforgiving industry.
The real problem here really is not the project itself , or its execution...the problem lies on how much preparation, consultations and amount of paperwork done prior to the signing of any agreement .
The ability to see what lies ahead and a certain degree of anticipation of what would go wrong in the next couple of days in any project (simple or complex) is crucial if you are to be a successful PM practitioner in any field.
